Regional Housing Legal Services celebrated the ribbon-cutting of Tasker Village Apartments, an affordable housing development preserved for the next thirty years as affordable rental housing with the assistance of Deputy Director/Senior Attorney for Multi-Family Housing, Dina Schlossberg.
Tasker Village is operated by Diversified Community Services, a nonprofit dedicated to providing leadership and services to strengthen and coordinate Point Breeze and the surrounding community’s vulnerable children, youth, and families.
In addition to community development, Diversified Community Services offers children and youth development services, as well as adult and family services including: assistance with housing retention, energy bills, parenting, personal finance, and first-time home buyer education.
The capital improvements made to Tasker Village Apartments will preserve 28 affordable housing units, including 6 one-bedroom apartments, 8 two-bedroom apartments, and 14 three-bedroom apartments. The facility additionally includes parking and a courtyard. Eligible tenants are individuals and families whose incomes are between 20 percent and 60 percent of the HUD Area Median Income.
RHLS provided counsel to Diversified with the acquisition of the real estate and the complex financing of the property to provide for the continued preservation of these apartments as affordable housings. RHLS also worked with Diversified Community Services and Innova Construction Services to create a condominium regime for the property that enabled Innova to purchase its office building while also allowing Diversified to own and develop the remainder of the site, including the development of a brand new community center for the Tasker Village community
RHLS offers its congratulations to Diversified Community Services on this wonderful project!
