Most LIHTC Properties Remain Affordable

HUD reports that most Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) units remain affordable to working families after their initial 15 year affordability period.  However, HUD also notes that as the federal, state, and local income restrictions are lifted over time, over a million units could be converted to market rate units unaffordable to many families “especially in high-cost areas with escalating market demand.”  This study highlights the need for affordability preservation.
