Oftentimes, it feels as if there are only two kinds of neighborhoods: ones that are completely disinvested or ones that are gentrified and serve higher income residents. A critical strategy for avoiding this either/or scenario is to preserve housing affordability in changing markets. This workshop provides the opportunity to learn from practitioners working to protect the long-term affordability of housing, ensuring strong mixed-income communities. Participants will also hear about community land trusts and other forms of housing with long-term affordability controls using public funds or public powers like inclusionary zoning, and will discuss opportunities to support the growth and development of permanently affordable homeownership in our region.
