My name Avery R. Covington and I have the amazing privilege to be a part of the PULP team as an MLK summer intern.
I am a rising second-year law student at Widener Commonwealth School of Law with an interest in providing advocacy to underserved communities through legal aid and corporate law . As a New Jersey native, I graduated from Rowan University with a B.A in Pre-Law and Certification in Business Communications.
Prior to law school, I worked as a fulltime paralegal and undergraduate student. My passion for the law and community service is credited to my grandmother, Rev. Dr. Hilda J. Covington. Seeing my grandmother serve the community tirelessly through her nonprofit organization, SisterHood Incorporated, inspired me to look beyond myself and live a life that would benefit the marginalized among us.
Oftentimes, I would spend my summers at SisterHood Incorporated providing food for the homeless, clothes for the less fortunate, and information to better the lives of the citizens within Burlington County. This experience taught me the importance of grassroot initiatives and community efficacy.
The premise of my legal career can be surmised within the scripture quoted by Martin Luther King Jr., “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever flowing stream.” My goal in my legal life is to continue to let justice flow.
In between work and school, I can be found indulging in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thank you PULP staff for such an amazing experience and all the work that is being done to better the marginalized community.
