This week, the Natural Resources Defense Council, National Housing Trust Fund, Energy Foundation, Elevate Energy, and New Ecology released their final report, Potential for Energy Savings in Affordable Multifamily Housing.
This important document describes how reducing energy consumption can work to maintain and promote housing affordability across the United States. The report aims to encourage utility companies to lead energy efficiency programs that specifically target these properties.
By estimating the savings that can be realized if energy efficiency measures are implemented, the report makes a compelling case for a larger focus on the issue.
In Pennsylvania alone, the report estimates that if utility companies “capture the maximum achievable potential” in implementation of energy efficiency programs, electric companies would obtain a net benefit of $274 million and gas companies would obtain a net benefit of $130 million by 2034.
