Investor Activity in the Single-Family Market: Patterns and Trends

November 13 | 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm

Investor activity in the single-family housing market has grown over the past several decades, accelerating after the Great Recession. Since the pandemic, policymakers and communities have scrutinized it more closely amid rising concerns about housing affordability and access to homeownership. While individual communities have struggled to regulate investor purchases, the issue has now reached the national stage.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, the largest housing bill in decades, recently passed with bipartisan support and includes measures to deter investor purchases of single-family homes. Whitney Airgood-Obrycki and Chris Herbert will discuss the findings of a new study that examines investor ownership patterns and trends across 35 large US metros.
