Pre-Purchase Stewardship for Shared Equity Homeownership

How do you set up homeowners for success from the start? How do you support homeowners in accessing safe, quality mortgages? Register for this course to learn about policies and procedures to improve the way you relate to your homebuyers pre-purchase!
This course will focus on key policies and procedures related to program marketing, homebuyer education, fair housing, applicant pipelines, applicant selection, program eligibility review, permitted mortgages, legal document review, and data management. We will include a focus on racially equitable outcomes for Black homeowners and other households of color.
Course Format & Details
This is a live online course that meets for six hours total over two days. Participants build skills through expert instruction, group discussions, and reflective activities.
Each participant who scores 80% of higher on the 10-question quiz following the course will earn a certificate of completion.

Suggested Audience
This is an intermediate-level course designed for nonprofit and municipal shared equity homeownership and CLT practitioners.
It is best for individuals who are implementing or actively designing a shared equity homeownership program. A basic understanding of subsidy retention (or shared equity homeownership) is essential for success in this course.

Instructor
Julie Brunner has worked as a Housing Consultant specializing in Community Land Trusts while also serving as the Housing Director for OPAL Community Land Trust on Orcas Island, Washington since 2002. In her capacity as a Consultant, Julie’s work has focused on community land trusts and homeownership both regionally and nationally and includes housing and community needs assessments, organizational and board development, program design, project feasibility, project work-outs and project implementation. Julie works regularly with Grounded Solutions Network as both a technical assistance provider and faculty member. As OPAL’s Housing Director, Julie has worked on multiple housing development projects creating permanently affordable owner-occupied housing as well as rental units. She is responsible for policy development and lender relations, and she also works one-on- one with OPAL homebuyers to navigate the homebuying process. Prior to moving to Orcas Island, Julie served as the Director of Human and Economic Development for Athens-Clarke County in Georgia and as the Housing Director for a rural housing non-profit in West Virginia. Julie has a Master of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University and a B.A. in International Studies and Economics from Virginia Tech. She lives with her husband and kids on Orcas Island.
