SUMMARY:CLTs\, Neighborhood Trusts\, & MINTs: Approaches to Creating and Preserving Rental Housing with Lasting Affordability
DESCRIPTION:Tens of thousands of affordable rental housing units are being lost through contract expirations\, abandonment\, and market forces each year in the U.S.\, worsening an already dire housing crisis. According to the National Housing Preservation Database\, more than 350\,000 units are at risk of losing affordability by 2030. \nIn our March 18 webinar\, titled “CLTs\, Neighborhood Trusts\, & MINTs: Approaches to Creating and Preserving Rental Housing with Lasting Affordability\,” we’ll explore economic development tools and innovative models for ensuring long-term affordability in the rental market and combating gentrification and displacement. \nYou’ll hear from Community Home Trust and the Town of Chapel Hill\, who have collaborated to pair the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) with the community land trust (CLT) model; the Kensington Corridor Trust\, which is implementing an economic development tool known as a Neighborhood Trust to ensure long-term affordability; and Trust Neighborhoods\, a national nonprofit using a model called the Mixed-Income Neighborhood Trust (MINT) to combat gentrification and displacement. \nSophia Corugedo\, Senior Research Associate at Grounded Solutions Network\, will lead the conversation. She’ll be joined by: \n\n\n\nKimberly Sanchez\, Executive Director\, Community Home Trust in North Carolina\nEmily Holt\, Affordable Housing Manager\, the Town of Chapel Hill\nAdriana Abizadeh-Barbour\, Executive Director\, Kensington Corridor Trust\nOlivia Simpson\, Project Manager\, Trust Neighborhoods\n\n\n\nThis webinar is for CLT and nonprofit shared equity housing practitioners\, researchers\, city and state officials\, and other nonprofit or mission-driven housing providers interested in using CLTs\, LIHTC\, neighborhood trusts\, or MINTs for rental housing projects. We hope you’ll join us! \nClick here to register. \n
