SUMMARY:LIHTC Basics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This one-day Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) workshop is specially designed for property managers\, office staff or other persons new to working in LIHTC.  It is also beneficial to seasoned managers and staff to refresh their current knowledge and learn about the most recent and ever-changing regulations regarding HOTMA (Housing Opportunities Through Modernization Act of 2016) which became effective January 1\, 2024. HOTMA does affect all facets of affordable housing\, including LIHTC\, and it is important that front-line staff are trained in regard to these changes. \nThis training will include a brief background of the LIHTC program\, with an emphasis being placed on Income/Asset Calculations\, Qualifying a Household\, Recertifications\, and Compliance.  We will discuss the new definitions of who is considered a family member; what is counted as income\, including asset income; what is and what is not considered an asset; income and asset exclusions; the new rules regarding student financial assistance; along with other critical HOTMA changes and updates. \nIn addition\, we will briefly discuss how LIHTC and the Federal HOME program work together and the major differences you need to know about the programs to maintain compliance. \nAll participants receive a Certificate of Attendance. SUMMARY:Advanced LIHTC Workshop w/optional HCCP exam
DESCRIPTION:Join the MLCM experts as they provide the information you need to navigate through the complexities of the Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program.  This training offers a thorough review of the federal regulations (Internal Revenue Code Section 42) related to LIHTC along with practical applications and instructions on critical tax credit management issues. \nThis two-day workshop will consist of critical elements of the LIHTC Program to include eligible basis\, qualified basis\, the applicable fraction\, and utility allowances. We will also focus on LIHTC basics\, asset and income calculation and compliance\, tenant eligibility\, and calculating rents. There will also be discussion on calculating tax credits\, important timeframes\, and acquisition/rehab developments. This training will be presented in accordance with HOTMA regulations. \nThis is an advanced training and is recommended for individuals with at least two years’ experience in the LIHTC program. Property owners\, developers\, asset managers\, state housing agency staff and others working in the affordable housing industry can benefit from this training. \nThe Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) exam will be offered on Day 2. This exam is optional and is offered on-line at your convenience. This exam is the most important step in obtaining the HCCP designation. In addition to passing the exam\, you must complete a 10-hour LIHTC training course (this workshop meets that requirement)\, a minimum of two years’ experience in the LIHTC industry and adherence to the HCCP Code of Ethics. \nThe HCCP credential is a specialized designation for professionals working in the affordable housing industry through the LIHTC program.
