Newman Commons is a LIHTC-funded affordable senior housing development located in Lewisburg in Kelly Township, Union County. This was truly a community-driven project. Rural Housing Works identified a need for senior housing and pulled all resources together to make the project happen. The design, cottage-style homes arranged like a neighborhood, not a facility, was intentional and reflects the care involved in the project and a vision of aging in place with dignity and connection.
Kathleen Graham, President of the Rural Housing Works Board, addresses the gathering.
The community response was overwhelmingly positive. The ribbon-cutting drew local and state officials and underscored how critical this project is for meeting the needs of Union County’s aging population.
Smiling together, RHLS’s Kim Dolan stands arm in arm with local counsel Melissa Lobos of Groover and Lobos LLC.
The location is the transition of rural countryside and contiguous mixed-use development of greater Lewisburg. The exterior materials reflect the historic character of Lewisburg. The project will be certified to the National Green Building Standard and DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes program. It was financed with LIHTC/PennHOMES.
