The Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation celebrated the grand opening of the Man An House in Philadelphia’s Chinatown neighborhood on June 10 alongside their development partner, Pennrose. RHLS represented PCDC in the transaction. The new affordable housing building is for low-income seniors in Philadelphia. Former Staff Attorney, Joseph Jampel, worked with PCDC and Pennrose to form a partnership agreement. Director of Housing Development Legal Services, Kim Dolan, later took over the representation. Joe attended the grand opening and was pleased to see the project come to fruition– we are always excited to reconnect with RHLS alumni!

The apartment complex is located on 9th near Winter Street, the closest cross street. It is a neighbor of the Winter Street Project that PCDC is currently developing.

John Chin, the executive director of PCDC, was extremely pleased at the ceremony. “While we see a beautiful building, what we are celebrating is preservation.” He also thanked Mark Schwartz, Of Counsel and former Executive Director, for being an inspiration for the development.

The president of PCDC’s board of directors, Margaret Chin, echoed this sentiment, “this building is not just brick and mortar, it’s a symbol of stability and hope. It represents years of vision, hard work, and collaboration. It stands as a testimony of what we can achieve together.”
Pennrose presented PCDC with a picture of the famous Chinatown mural, which will be recreated on the Man An House.
Among the attendees were Robin Weismann, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (who texted Mark Schwartz when John mentioned him) and Philadelphia City Councilmember Dave Squilla.

You can see the video from the groundbreaking in this news story. Read more about the building amenities on the Pennrose website.
